Basketball Recap: Archbishop Mccarthy Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Archbishop McCarthy and Pembroke Pines Charter squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Archbishop McCarthy had to settle for second. They lost 83-58 to the Pembroke Pines Charter Jaguars. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Mavericks of the 83-74 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2021.

Archbishop McCarthy's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nicholas Castillo, who posted ten points. Castillo is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 40% in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Richard Segovia, who had ten points and five boards.

Robert Guishard continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Pembroke Pines Charter, dropping a double-double with 36 points and 20 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Guishard a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Maximo Ortega, who dropped a triple-double with 19 points, ten rebounds, and 11 assists.

Archbishop McCarthy's defeat dropped their record down to 15-12. As for Pembroke Pines Charter, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season.
