Banquete is a perfect 6-0 against Lyford since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. We've got a battle between Bulldogs coming up. The last three games Banquete has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Friday, Banquete didn't have quite enough to beat San Diego and fell 2-1. That's two games in a row now that the Bulldogs have lost by just one run.
Norman Ramirez was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out 11 batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.
On the hitting side, Banquete saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Josh Jimenez, who went 1-for-2 with one triple. That triple was Jimenez's first of the season.
Meanwhile, Lyford won against Rio Hondo last Friday with 11 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. Everything went Lyford's way against Santa Rosa as Lyford made off with an 11-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won eight matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Riley Reyna was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Diego Medina, who scored two runs. Aiden Rubalcaba was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
The victory made it two in a row for Lyford and bumps their season record up to 13-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for Banquete, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-6-1 record this season.
Banquete skirted past Lyford 1-0 in their previous matchup on March 6th. Will Banquete repeat their success, or does Lyford has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
