It was a good run, but the Kingwood Christian Life Center Academy Cougars unfortunately witnessed the end of their 13-game winning streak on Friday. They fell to True North 69-63. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Kingwood Christian Life Center Academy came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 414th, while True North is ranked 993rd).
Kingwood Christian Life Center Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jayden Blake-Benard, who scored 14 points along with two steals. Blake-Benard continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Ayden Boyd, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead True North to victory, but perhaps none more so than Porter Hadley, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Hadley also posted eight assists for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Parks, who scored 20 points along with five assists and three steals.
Kingwood Christian Life Center Academy's loss ended a eight-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-1. As for True North, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kingwood Christian Life Center Academy's road trip will continue as they head out to face Still Creek Christian at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Still Creek Christian is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home. As for True North, they will head out on the road to challenge Faith Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Faith Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 last Friday.
