East Laurens' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mckayela Tanner, who en route to 23 points along with seven boards and six assists. Tanner is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last eight games she's played. Brenda Tanner was another key player, on her way to 11 points and four steals.
Meanwhile, Vidalia didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Elbert County on Friday, but they still walked away with a 44-38 win.
East Laurens better focus on containing Hannah Nichols and Cori Warner as the pair were huge in Vidalia's win. Nichols posted 13 points and four steals, while Warner put up six points in addition to 12 rebounds and five assists.
Vidalia smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 57 consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Vidalia pushed their record up to 23-6 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.9 points over those games. As for East Laurens, their record now sits at 21-5.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: East Laurens has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 35.8 boards per game. However, it's not like Vidalia struggles in that department as they've been averaging 37.7 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
East Laurens ended up a good deal behind Vidalia in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, losing 64-49. Can East Laurens avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
