Basketball Recap: Gibson Overweg Key Part of Team Effort in Spartans Win

Springport hadn't done well against Leslie recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Springport Spartans had just enough and edged out the Leslie Blackhawks 53-51. This was payback for the Spartans, who suffered a 45-42 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Springport's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gibson Overweg, who posted eight points in addition to 11 boards and four steals. What's more, Overweg posted four assists, the most he's had since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Dallas Higelmire, who went 6-for-14 on his way to 13 points.

Springport was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They are 12-5 when they've passed the ball that well.

Springport's record now sits at 14-9. As for Leslie, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-12 record this season.

Springport has already played their next contest, a 56-18 loss against Stockbridge on the 28th. Leslie does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
