The Vance Charter Knights will square off against the Oxford Prep Griffins at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Vance Charter 3.4, Oxford Prep 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Vance Charter is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Roxboro Community just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell 5-2 to the Bulldogs. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Knights couldn't push the score so high this time.
Vance Charter saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Leah Rice, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was Rice's first of the season.
Meanwhile, while Oxford Prep put up some runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Warren County. The Griffins walked away with a 4-0 win over the Eagles. The Griffins haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Hailey Crowder was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Marleigh Swanner was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs.
Oxford Prep's win bumped their record up to 12-5. As for Vance Charter, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-4.
Vance Charter's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's match. The Knights have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Oxford Prep, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Vance Charter continue to outrun the ball?
Vance Charter was able to grind out a solid victory over Oxford Prep when the teams last played on Friday, winning 3-0. Do the Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Griffins turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
