Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a  season-high score is even better (just ask Mountain Heritage). They claimed a resounding  57-7 win over the Avery County Vikings. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Cougars' considerable advantage  in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 73rd, while the Vikings are ranked 388th).
Leading Mountain Heritage to victory were  Brayden Deyton and  Cason Jones.  Deyton threw for 158 yards and three  touchdowns on only nine passes, while  Jones rushed for 109 yards and one  TD. Jones didn't just play on offense: he also made six total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defended one pass.  Jackson Banks also helped with two scores in total.

 They were just one part of a punishing run game: Mountain Heritage was unstoppable on the ground and  finished the game with 361  rushing yards. That's the most  rushing yards they've posted since back in December of 2024.

As for Avery County, their loss was  their fourth straight at home, which  dropped their record down to 1-6.

The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 946 yards in their previous games. Meanwhile, Avery County is set to  challenge  their familiar foe Hendersonville  at 7:30  p.m.  on Friday.
