Two dominant backs in Miles Omalley and Elijah Mawhiney are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Maranatha Minutemen will be playing in front of their home fans against the Desert Christian Academy Conquerors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Maranatha will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
After only two points in their last match, Maranatha made sure to put some points up on the board against Santa Rosa Academy on Friday. Maranatha took down Santa Rosa Academy 49-34.
Omalley had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 230 yards and five touchdowns on only 14 carries. Omalley's longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Bradley Loiacono, who picked up 130 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, after only 12 points in their last contest, Desert Christian Academy made sure to put some points up on the board against Vasquez on Friday. Desert Christian Academy blew past Vasquez 34-12.
Mawhiney had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 186 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.3 yards per carry, and also picked up 66 receiving yards. Another player making a difference was Cashton Scott, who rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries.
Their wins bumped Maranatha to 7-1 and Desert Christian Academy to 3-5.
Friday's match might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Maranatha has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 173.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Desert Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been even better at 219.1 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Everything came up roses for Maranatha against Desert Christian Academy in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 42-13 win. Does Maranatha have another victory up their sleeve, or will Desert Christian Academy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
