While losing is never fun, El Dorado can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1007th, while Eastlake is ranked 429th).
When it comes to explaining why El Dorado lost, one person who can't be blamed is Cristian Velasquez. Despite the final result, he scored 16 points along with four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jay Hudson, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
Eastlake was led to victory by Derek Mendez and Lucas Brandon. Mendez scored 12 points, while Brandon scored 11 points.
El Dorado has not been sharp recently as the team has lost 18 of their last 21 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-22 record this season. As for Eastlake, they have been performing well recently as they've won 13 of their last 17 games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-14 record this season.
El Dorado will head out on the road to face off against Pebble Hills at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. El Dorado is coming into the match with five straight defeats on the road, meaning Pebble Hills will have to defend against a team hungry for a victory. As for Eastlake, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Coronado at 7:30 p.m.
