Las Cruces is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Albuquerque, who was ranked third at the time (Las Cruces was ranked first). The Bulldawgs put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 3-0 win on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldawgs in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won three in a row.
Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Las Cruces took every set by at least 11 points. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-11, 25-11, 25-14.
Las Cruces can attribute much of their success to Caleigh Garcia, who had eight digs and four aces.
Cleveland had taken St. Pius X down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Saturday. The Storm fell just short of the Sartans by a score of 3-2. The Storm have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back matches.
Cleveland actually scored more points across those five sets (108-106), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The final score came out to 15-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-22, 19-17.
Cleveland's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Las Cruces, their win bumped their record up to 12-0.
