Haven is a perfect 10-0 against Hillsboro since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Trojans at 4:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Hillsboro will be up against a hot Haven squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. The Wildcats beat Smoky Valley on Tuesday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 16-1. Considering the Wildcats have won three matches by more than 14 runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Avery Brawner was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base.
In other batting news, Haven got a massive performance out of Ella Bontrager, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1. Sierra Yoder was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Haven hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five strikeouts batters in ten consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Hillsboro got the win against Canton-Galva last Tuesday by a conclusive 19-5. The victory continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won four in a row.
Hillsboro let Khloe Funk and Abby Beavers run wild. Funk went 3-for-5 with six RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Beavers scored five runs and stole a base while going 5-for-5. Those two doubles gave Funk a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cassidy Bernhardt, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Haven's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-0. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Hillsboro, their win bumped their record up to 2-0.
Haven took their victory against Hillsboro when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 24-0 score. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
