Even though the South Davidson Wildcats have not done well against the Southwestern Randolph Cougars recently (they were 0-6 in their previous six matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. South Davidson came out on top in a nail-biter against Southwestern Randolph and snuck past 42-40. Despite the victory, that was the fewest points South Davidson has scored all season.
South Davidson's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tanner Delattre, who scored 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tanner Walters, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Southwestern Randolph still got an impressive performance from Marcus Robertson, who scored 24 points along with six rebounds. The contest was Robertson's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Nathan Ellis, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and six assists.
The win makes it two in a row for South Davidson and bumps their season record up to 2-3. As for Southwestern Randolph, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-4.
South Davidson will head out on the road to face off against North Stanly at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. North Stanly will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. Southwestern Randolph won't have much time to rest: their next match is against East Davidson at 7:30 p.m. on December 6th. East Davidson presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Southwestern Randolph in North Carolina (East Davidson is ranked 278th, while Southwestern Randolph is ranked 568th).
