The West Central Trojans will take on the South Newton Rebels at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. West Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
West Central is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Tri-County just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the Cavaliers by a score of 8-7.
Kailee Bishop was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. Another player making a difference was Sydney Mellon, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Newton). They were the clear victors by a 20-2 margin over Faith Christian on Saturday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Rebels considering their one-run performance the game before.
Briley Iseminger made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Faye Springsteen and Cora Groover did most of the damage at the plate: Springsteen went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Groover went 2-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI Groover has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayleigh Burton, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
South Newton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
West Central's defeat dropped their record down to 9-5. As for South Newton, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-4.
Everything went West Central's way against South Newton in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as West Central made off with a 16-1 victory. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Rebels have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
