The Jarrell Cougars struggled with three-point shooting accuracy on Tuesday (the Marble Falls Mustangs were 27% better) and sadly the final score reflected it. Jarrell was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 55-54 to Marble Falls. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Jarrell came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 367th, while Marble Falls is ranked 919th).
When it comes to explaining why Jarrell lost, one person who can't be blamed is Aniya Taylor. Despite the final result, she scored 28 points along with six rebounds. Taylor scored a full 51.9% of Jarrell's points, the 26th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Lamyre' Fitch, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Marble Falls got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Lexie Edwards out in front who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Edwards has scored at least 25% of Marble Falls' points. Caitlynn Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Jarrell's loss dropped their record down to 16-10. As for Marble Falls, their victory bumped their record up to 5-19.
Jarrell will be playing at home against Lago Vista at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Lago Vista focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Tuesday. As for Marble Falls, they will head out on the road to face off against Lampasas at 6:15 p.m. on Friday.
