Alexander Central hasn't had much luck against Watauga recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Having just played yesterday, the Alexander Central Cougars will jump right back in to play the Watauga Pioneers at 4:00 p.m. Alexander Central is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.1 points per game this season.
Alexander Central took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They walked away with a 38-30 victory over Hibriten.
Alexander Central's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Addie Jack, who posted 11 points in addition to five boards and three steals. Another player making a difference was Malayah Adams, who scored eight points and six assists.
Meanwhile, Watauga entered their tilt with Ashe County on Friday with three consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with four. They claimed a resounding 73-33 win over the Huskies. The Pioneers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine contests by 20 points or more this season.
Alexander Central better keep an eye on Kate Sears. She was instrumental in Watauga's win, dropping a triple-double with 26 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists. The match was Sears' tenth in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Blair Haines, who put up 11 points along with five assists and three steals.
Alexander Central's victory bumped their record up to 15-10. As for Watauga, their win bumped their record up to 17-5.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Alexander Central has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 34.1 boards per game. However, it's not like Watauga struggles in that department as they've been averaging 23 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Alexander Central ended up a good deal behind Watauga when the teams last played two weeks ago, losing 63-48. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Sears, who dropped a triple-double with 18 points, ten boards, and 11 assists. Now that Alexander Central knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
