On Friday, Trenton was able to grind out a solid win over The Rock, taking the game 51-44. Given Trenton's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 121st, while The Rock is ranked 357th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Trenton got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Nyima Gillyard out in front who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Brianna Karanja, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Despite the loss, The Rock saw an underclassman step up: Ruby Patterson scored 15 points. It was the first time this season that Patterson scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Marlin Tyson, who scored seven points.
Trenton's win was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.8 points per game. As for The Rock, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-22.
Trenton will face off against Bronson at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Trenton is facing Bronson at the right time seeing as Bronson is stuck on a 15-game losing streak. As for The Rock, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Varsity Opponent at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
