Gateway Charter is 1-8 against LaBelle since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Griffins will head out on the road to face off against the Cowboys/Cowgirls at 7:00 p.m. Gateway Charter has given up an average of 12.1 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Gateway Charter is headed into Monday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Wednesday. They came up short against Oasis, falling 17-0. Griffins fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Sharks since on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask LaBelle). Everything went their way against Avon Park on Thursday as they made off with a 24-10 victory. With that win, the Cowboys/Cowgirls brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.
Abby Hicks was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and five unearned) runs off 11 hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-6 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, LaBelle got a massive performance out of Braulynne Flores, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances. Those four runs gave Flores a new career-high. Emorie Anderson was another key player, going 2-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.
LaBelle always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .547. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .515 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
LaBelle is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Gateway Charter, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.
Gateway Charter came up short against LaBelle when the teams last played back in March, falling 7-2. Can the Griffins avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
