The Pima Roughriders came tearing into Monday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 53.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 54-40 win over Safford. Given Pima's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 28th, while Safford is ranked 152nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Pima got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sadie Richardson out in front who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Ady Hoopes was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.
Despite the loss, Safford saw an underclassman step up: Hannah Schade scored 12 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Schade hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Camilla Smith, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Pima is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season. As for Safford, their loss dropped their record down to 4-11.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pima will square off against Blue Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Blue Ridge will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. As for Safford, they will head out on the road to face off against Empire at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Empire comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last seven games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
