Monrovia is 0-10 against South Pasadena since October of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. The Wildcats are taking a road trip to take on the Tigers at 5:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Monrovia sitting on three straight wins and South Pasadena on six.
On Thursday, Monrovia made easy work of Blair and carried off a 3-0 victory.
Monrovia never let Blair on the board, but things got pretty close in the third set. The match finished with set scores of 25-12, 25-13, 25-22.
Meanwhile, South Pasadena hadn't done well against La Canada recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Tigers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Spartans, sneaking past 3-2.
South Pasadena was actually outscored in aggregate across those five sets (102-96), but they still managed to win. The final score came out to 25-18, 19-25, 25-22, 12-25, 15-12.
Monrovia better focus on containing Ella Garner and Bella Ventura as the pair were huge in South Pasadena's win. Garner had 14 digs and three aces, while Ventura had 11 kills, eight digs, and four aces. That's the most aces Ventura has posted over her last 13 matchups. Another player making a difference was Kayla Yau, who had 17 assists and seven digs.
South Pasadena was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 16 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in seven consecutive contests.
South Pasadena's record now sits at 19-9. As for Monrovia, they now have a winning record of 13-12.
Monrovia might still be hurting after the 3-0 loss they got from South Pasadena in their previous meeting back in September. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
