Carolina Forest and Loris are an even 4-4 against one another since February of 2018, but likely not for long. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Carolina Forest Panthers face off against Loris Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
While Carolina Forest didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Socastee a 13-0 shutout on Wednesday. That 13 run margin sets a new team best for the Panthers this season.
Kaysen Warehime made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kylee Warehime, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Natalie Nesheiwat, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
Carolina Forest always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Loris made sure to put some runs up on the board against Marlboro County on Tuesday. Loris put the hurt on Marlboro County with a sharp 12-2 win. The Lions have beaten the Bulldogs the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bulldogs has come to flipping the script.
Like Carolina Forest, Loris also got a great game from a two-way player: Jessie Cartrette. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Cartrette was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Kenzie McCoy was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season. Haley Spence was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
The victory made it two in a row for Carolina Forest and bumps their season record up to 7-3. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 12 runs. As for Loris, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
Carolina Forest skirted past Loris 4-3 in their previous meeting on March 1st. Will Carolina Forest repeat their success, or does Loris have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
