The Brownfield Cubs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 52-38 to Sunray.
Despite the defeat, Brownfield saw an underclassman step up: Alliey Coffey scored 20 points along with eight rebounds. Coffey set a new season high mark in points with 20. Kk Fininen was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Sunray's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Carly Neeley, who scored 23 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Neeley has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ariadna De la rosa, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds.
Brownfield has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for Sunray, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Brownfield won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Abernathy at 3:00 p.m. on December 9th. Abernathy has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 465 points over their last seven contests. Sunray will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Non Varsity Tournament Opponent at 9:00 a.m. on December 9th. Non Varsity Tournament Opponent has now lost 12 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 7.
