The Heritage Coyotes waltzed into their match on Tuesday with four straight wins but they left with five. Everything went their way against Independence as Heritage made off with a 72-52 win. Given Heritage's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 120th, while Independence is ranked 584th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Heritage's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Caleb Miller led the charge by scoring 14 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Cameron Lomax, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds.
Heritage is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season. As for Independence, their loss dropped their record down to 8-15.
Heritage will head out on the road to take on Memorial at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Memorial is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games. As for Independence, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Walnut Grove at 7:15 p.m. One thing working in Walnut Grove's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 11 matchups.
