The Cibola Cougars pushed their score all the way to 59 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They suffered a rough 83-59 defeat at the hands of Atrisco Heritage Academy. While losing is never fun, Cibola can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 49th, while Atrisco Heritage Academy is ranked fourth).
Atrisco Heritage Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Latavious Morris, who scored 19 points along with nine assists. Morris hasn't dropped below 15 points for five straight games. Marquise Renfro was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with eight rebounds.
Cibola has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season. As for Atrisco Heritage Academy, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 15-4.
Cibola will be playing at home against Volcano Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Volcano Vista has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 1,265 points over their last 19 games. As for Atrisco Heritage Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Rio Rancho at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Rio Rancho is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 61.4 points per game.
