Baseball Recap: Pearl City Extends Winning Streak to Three

Pearl City won against Durand/Pecatonica on Tuesday with 15 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Wolves were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over the Rivermen. The result was nothing new for the Wolves, who have now won six contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Brandon Hillie made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kip Martens was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Pearl City's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 4-6 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Runkle, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Pearl City was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The win (which was Pearl City's third in a row) raised their record to 8-7. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Durand/Pecatonica, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-14.
