The Newman Greenies entered their tilt with the Patterson Lumberjacks with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Newman put the hurt on Patterson with a sharp 49-27 win on Wednesday. Given Newman's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while Patterson is ranked 110th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Newman's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Christopher Cenac, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 rebounds. Cenac has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last five times he's played. Todd Jones was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.
Newman pushed their record up to 15-10 with that victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.8 points per game. As for Patterson, their loss dropped their record down to 13-16.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Newman will take on King Charter at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Patterson, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Donaldsonville.
