Softball Recap: Serrano Has No Trouble Against Hesperia

Serrano came out on top against Hesperia on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive 14-run fifth inning. The Diamondbacks put the hurt on the Scorpions with a sharp 18-2 win. The Diamondbacks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by nine runs or more this season.

Sam Conan made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Wendy Arauz was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Malone, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run.

Serrano always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hesperia only posted an OBP of .100.

The victory made it two in a row for Serrano and bumps their season record up to 10-10. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 5-15-1 Hesperia and 5-12 Burroughs. As for Hesperia, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-15-1 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Serrano will square off against rival Apple Valley at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Hesperia is set to face off against their familiar foe Burroughs at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
