The Cape Fear Colts will square off against the Triton Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Cape Fear is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Seventy-First get on the board and left with a 19-0 win on Tuesday. With that victory, the Colts brought their scoring average up to 7.4 runs per game.
Chris Serbio made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Serbio was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Cape Fear got a massive performance out of Landon Underwood, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. That's the most runs Underwood has posted since back in February of 2024. Brycen Talley was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Cape Fear hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Seventy-First struck out ten times.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Triton, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They put the hurt on E.E. Smith with a sharp 16-1 win on Tuesday. The Hawks haven't had any issues with the Golden Bulls recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
Like Cape Fear, Triton also got a great game from a two-way player: Alan Hinson. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, Hinson didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-4.
In other pitching news, Rhett Alphin looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single hit and allowed only one earned run while striking out 11 over four innings pitched.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Chase Sewell, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Brayden Bates, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-2.
The win was the third in a row for Cape Fear, bringing their record for this year to 4-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Triton, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 4-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Cape Fear has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Triton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
