Basketball Recap: Alchesay Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Alyssa Jim and Kioni Nashio

Alchesay was the 49-43 winner over Snowflake when they last played one another back in November of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Alchesay Falcons fell 50-43 to the Snowflake Lobos on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 66th, while the Lobos are ranked tenth).

Alchesay's loss came despite strong showings from Kioni Nashio and Alyssa Jim. Nashio went 5 for 8 on her way to 12 points, while Jim went 7 of 15 on her way to 18 points. That's the most points Nashio has posted since back in December of 2024.

Snowflake was led to victory by Ryah Denhalter and Ranell West. Denhalter almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine boards, while West dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 boards. Denhalter is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayci Ballard, who posted four points.

Alchesay dropped their record down to 10-9 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Snowflake, the victory was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-2.

Alchesay will head out to take on Blue Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Snowflake, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 60-16 win against Safford on the 9th.
