South Iredell hasn't had much luck against West Rowan recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Vikings will face off against the Falcons at 7:00 p.m. South Iredell will be strutting in after a victory while West Rowan will be coming in after a loss.
South Iredell will bounce into Wednesday's game after beating Cox Mill, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Vikings had just enough and edged out the Chargers 5-4 on Tuesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last eight times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Luke Snell looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Reid Johnson was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, West Rowan unfortunately witnessed the end of their ten-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of East Rowan. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 4, 2023, but that streak is no more.
Brant Graham put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time he hasn't allowed a single hit since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Graham wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Carter Durant, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that Durant has launched this season. Brice Knox was another, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
South Iredell has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.9 runs over those games. As for West Rowan, their defeat dropped their record down to 19-4.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. South Iredell has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .444. However, it's not like West Rowan struggles in that department as they've averaged .476. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
South Iredell might still be hurting after the 16-3 loss they got from West Rowan when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
