Basketball Recap: Swynn Jackson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Fort Wayne Northrop over Whitko

Fort Wayne Northrop was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 69-64 heartbreaker at the hands of the Whitko Wildcats. The Bruins were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wildcats earlier this season, when they won 85-60.

Fort Wayne Northrop lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Swynn Jackson, who went 5 for 10 on her way to 12 points in addition to five boards and three steals. Jackson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 19 games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Miley Wareing, who went 7 of 13 on her way to 18 points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Fort Wayne Northrop smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Whitko only pulled down eight offensive boards.

Whitko got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jayma Stonebraker out in front who went 6 of 10 on her way to 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Adriyanna Phillips, who went 6 of 9 from beyond the arc on her way to 20 points and seven rebounds.

Fort Wayne Northrop's defeat dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Whitko, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.

Fort Wayne Northrop will take on Fort Wayne Snider at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Fort Wayne Snider is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.2 points per game this season. As for Whitko, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 74-53 win against Wabash on the 8th.
