The Woodlands is 1-0 against Caney Creek since October of 2022, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Woodlands Highlanders will head out on the road to face off against the Caney Creek Panthers at 7:00 p.m. The Woodlands knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six contests -- so hopefully Caney Creek likes a good challenge.
Last Friday, The Woodlands got themselves on the board against College Park, but College Park never followed suit. They blew past the Cavaliers, posting a 49-0 win at home. The result was nothing new for The Woodlands, who have now won five games by 29 points or more so far this season.
Mabrey Mettauer was the offensive standout of the match as he threw for 246 yards and four touchdowns while completing 86.7% of his passes. Mettauer is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last four games he's played. The Woodlands also got a significant boost from Joseph Canola, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 112 yards.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 63-9, which was the final score in Caney Creek's tilt against Willis on Friday. While losing is never fun, Caney Creek can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 595th, while Willis is ranked 45th).
The Woodlands' victory was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-2. Admittedly, the team didn't face the toughest opposition across those games, namely College Park, Grand Oaks, and New Caney. Caney Creek has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.
Everything came up roses for The Woodlands against Caney Creek in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 63-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for The Woodlands since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
