The Halifax Academy Vikings's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their tenth straight loss. They took a 58-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of Kerr-Vance Academy. Halifax Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Kerr-Vance Academy apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Halifax Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Austin Gaertner. Despite the final result, he scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. Landon Peoples was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five steals.
Even though they lost, Halifax Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kerr-Vance Academy only pulled down three offensive rebounds.
Kerr-Vance Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was M.j. Wright out in front who scored 21 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wright has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Gavin Currin, who scored nine points along with four steals.
Halifax Academy bumped their record down to 2-13 with that loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Kerr-Vance Academy, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-10.
Halifax Academy will head out on the road to face off against Faith Christian at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Kerr-Vance Academy, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Rocky Mount Academy at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. One thing working in Rocky Mount Academy's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four games.
