Basketball Recap: Carson Arthalony Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Canton

It may have taken double overtime to finish the job, but PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 48-45 victory over the Canton Little Giants. The Bluejays have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Little Giants, too.

PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Carson Arthalony led the charge by going 9 of 20 en route to 25 points and six rebounds. With that strong performance, Arthalony is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. Another player making a difference was Aubrey Vogel, who posted 11 points in addition to seven assists and three steals.

Canton lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ella Demler, who went 8 of 13 on her way to 23 points and seven rebounds. Those 23 points gave Demler a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Turner, who posted seven points and six assists.

PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Canton, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.

PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 57-28 victory against North Mac on the 7th. As for Canton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 64-49 defeat against Morton on the 6th.
