The Gregory Gorillas lost against the Jones County Coyotes back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Gregory took a 42-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of Jones County. Gregory was down 38-14 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Gregory lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Dani VanderWerff, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds. Ashlyn Vosika was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with three steals.
Gregory's defeat was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Jones County, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gregory will face off against White River at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. White River presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Gregory in South Dakota (White River is ranked 50th, while Gregory is ranked 130th). As for Jones County, they will head out on the road to take on Bennett County at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
