The Long Reach Lightning's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight defeat. They were dealt a 47-10 defeat at the hands of Hammond. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Long Reach has scored all season.
Hammond got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Asia Mitchell out in front who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Nia Green was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with eight assists and six rebounds.
Long Reach dropped their record down to 2-17 with that defeat, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.7 points per game. As for Hammond, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 18-0.
Long Reach will face off against River Hill at TBD on Monday. River Hillpresents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Long Reach in Maryland (River Hill is ranked 41st, while Long Reach is ranked 218th). As for Hammond, they will be playing at home against Mt. Hebron at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Hammond is not getting complacent considering they own a much higher rank in Maryland (they are ranked 24th, while Mt. Hebron is ranked 115th).
