After flying high against the Man Hillbillies last Tuesday, the Belfry Pirates came back down to earth. Belfry took a serious blow against Pikeville on Thursday, falling 77-35. Belfry was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 54-15.
Belfry's loss came despite strong showings from Zade Rash and Bryce Hagy. Rash scored 16 points, while Hagy scored nine points along with eight rebounds. That's the first time this season that Hagy pulled down eight or more rebounds.
Belfry has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. As for Pikeville, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-5.
Belfry will be playing at home against Phelps at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Kentucky (Phelps is ranked 202nd, while Belfry is ranked 199th). Pikeville will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Shelby Valley at 7:30 p.m. on January 22nd.
