The East Lake Eagles were the 66-60 winner over the Mitchell Mustangs when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. East Lake took a 53-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mitchell on Wednesday.
East Lake's loss came despite strong showings from Katelyn Otto and Kierra Pitts. Otto scored 15 points, while Pitts scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chanya Deboy, who scored six points.
Leading Mitchell to victory were Kaylana Little and Priya Jacob. Little scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and four steals, while Jacob dropped a double-double on 14 points and 20 rebounds. Little continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Moriah Hillmon, who scored five points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
East Lake has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season. As for Mitchell, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-8.
East Lake won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Springstead at 7:00 p.m. on January 25th. Springstead is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road. As for Mitchell, they will square off against Countryside at 7:45 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Florida (Countryside is ranked 189th, while Mitchell is ranked 191st).
