Abby Hilleary made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
Hilleary wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Zoe Nash, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI. That's the most hits Nash has posted since back in March.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Oak Hill's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Woodrow Wilson.
KK Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Kinzlee Dove made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season.
Nicholas County's victory bumped their record up to 6-8. As for Oak Hill, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-8.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Nicholas County hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Oak Hill struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Nicholas County was able to grind out a solid win over Oak Hill in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 17-14. Will the Grizzlies repeat their success, or do the Red Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
