Mountain View has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Payson Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Mountain View focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, Mountain View faced Layton Christian Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Mountain View fell 67-58 to Layton Christian Academy. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Conner Fairbanks, who scored 26 points. That was a full 44.8% of Mountain View's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Simeon Suguturaga, who scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Payson suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Friday. They fell just short of Provo by a score of 36-33. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Payson has scored all season.
Mountain View's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-6. As for Payson, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.
Mountain View was dealt a bruising 80-49 defeat at the hands of Payson in their previous meeting back in February of 2019. Can Mountain View avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
