Emery/Weiner will head out on the road to take on the St. John XXIII Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
While Emery/Weiner couldn't quite beat Frassati Catholic last Tuesday, the three-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 41-point defeat they were dealt two weeks ago. Emery/Weiner fell just short of Frassati Catholic by a score of 58-55. Emery/Weiner has struggled against Frassati Catholic recently, as their game last Tuesday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Emery/Weiner got a solid performance out of Matthew Mintz, who scored 16 points. Mintz is absolutely dominating the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season.
Meanwhile, St. John XXIII's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 49-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lutheran South Academy.
Emery/Weiner's defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-3. As for St. John XXIII, they bumped their record down to 3-11 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home.
Emery/Weiner came up short against St. John XXIII in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 49-45. Can Emery/Weiner avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
