The Higley Knights typically have all the answers at home, but on Wednesday the Campo Verde Coyotes proved too difficult a challenge. They slipped by the Knights 49-48. Winning may never get old, but Campo Verde sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
It was another big night for Kelsey Watts, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 16 rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 15 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Madison Coger, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Higley saw an underclassman step up: Ava Taliaferro scored 19 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Taliaferro has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cadence Murdough, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.
Campo Verde has been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season. As for Higley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-9.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Campo Verde will take on the Black Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Williams Field will be looking to extend their current ten-game winning streak. As for Higley, they will be playing at home against the Colts at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Arizona (Casteel is ranked 68th, while the Knights are ranked 71st).
