Basketball Recap: Merit Preparatory Academy Piles Up the Points Against Mount Vernon

Merit Preparatory Academy won the last time they faced Mount Vernon and things went their way on Friday too. The Merit Preparatory Academy Knights simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Mount Vernon Patriots 86-15. That 71 point margin sets a new team best for the Knights this season.

Merit Preparatory Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ayden Martinez, who went 8 of 13 on his way to 17 points along with eight boards and six steals. What's more, Martinez also racked up two blocks, the most he's had since back in December of 2023. Miles Petersen was another key player, going 9 for 14 on his way to 20 points and seven rebounds.

Merit Preparatory Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

The victory got Merit Preparatory Academy back to even at 4-4. As for Mount Vernon, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.

Merit Preparatory Academy and Pinnacle will face off at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. As for Mount Vernon, they will take on Green River in a tournament on Friday.
