Blount is 0-5 against Murphy since February of 2016 but things could change on Tuesday. The Blount Leopards will venture away from home to take on the Murphy Panthers at 4:00 p.m. Murphy took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Blount, who comes in off a win.
Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Blount turned things around against Rain on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 12-2 margin over the Red Raiders. Considering the Leopards' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Bailey James was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That RBI was his first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Christopher Wiggins Jr, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and two RBI. Those two triples gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlos Mitchell, who scored two runs and stole Four bases. while getting on base in both of his plate appearances.
Blount was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Murphy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 23rd straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against St. Luke's Episcopal, falling 23-2.
Blount's record is now 2-5. As for Murphy, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-16.
Murphy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Blount has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .500. It's a different story for Murphy, though, as they've only averaged .102. Will they be able to contain Blount's hitters?
Blount suffered a grim 10-2 defeat to Murphy in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Blount avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
