The Sunnyside Blue Devils are taking a road trip to challenge the Vista Grande Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Vista Grande will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Sunnyside extended their winning streak to seven on Thursday. Everything went the Blue Devils' way against Walden Grove as they made off with a 13-3 win.

04/22/25 @ Rio Rico | 3 |

Sunnyside got a big performance out of JORGE RUIZ, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. RUIZ is on a roll when it comes to hits, as he's now got three or more in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of SABINO GONZALEZ, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Sunnyside was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .348 or higher in seven consecutive matches.
Vista Grande came out on top against Mountain View on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run seventh inning. The Spartans never let the Mountain Lions get on the board and left with a 9-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Spartans.
Not much got past Jayan Ybarra, who gave up just a hit and racked up 11 Ks to keep Mountain View off the board. Ybarra also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Vista Grande is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 9-11-1 otherwise.
At the plate, Ruben Baca was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Thomas Ortega also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Sunnyside pushed their record up to 17-8 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Vista Grande, the win got them back to even at 12-12-1.
Sunnyside skirted past Vista Grande 7-5 in their previous matchup back in March of 2015. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
