Lowell Catholic extended the longest winning streak in Catholic Central - Small this week by beating Pope John Paul II, 35-7. This was the team's eighth consecutive win.
Pope John XXIII led the league in scoring this week after putting up 47 points on St. Joseph Prep. Mike Sullivan threw for 198 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 27 yards in the win.
Adam Wentzel and Chris Tamukedde gave Lowell Catholic a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Wentzel threw for 151 yards and four touchdowns, while Tamukedde ran for 112 yards. Wentzel also contributed to the rushing game with 101 yards on the ground.
Khaneil Bruce was the best wideout in the league this week as the Tigers bested the Eagles. Bruce tallied six receptions for 143 yards. Nate Budwah helped Pope John XXIII's passing attack out by catching one ball for 29 yards.
Pope John XXIII's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Tigers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Sullivan has thrown for 1430 yards and 16 touchdowns this season, while Bruce has 47 catches for 805 yards. Joe D'onofrio leads the league in rushing with 912 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Lowell Catholic takes on second place Cathedral. Last week, Rick Sampson's team topped Pope John Paul II, while Cathedral defeated St. Clement.
D'onofrio of the Pope John XXIII is only 88 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Panthers take on the Crusaders. Cathedral has allowed 120 points this season, while Lowell Catholic has given up 59. Duane Sigsbury 's team allowed 13 points last week as it beat the Anchormen.
