The Platte County Pirates will challenge the Truman Patriots at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Platte County will be strutting in after a victory while Truman will be coming in after a defeat.
Platte County proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by three) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past St. Pius X 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pirates have posted since November 2, 2024.
If you add up the scores from across all five sets (109-101) Platte County actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 27-25, 22-25, 10-25, 17-15.
Platte County can attribute much of their success to Evelyn Reith, who had seven digs and four aces. That's the most aces Reith has posted over her last eight matchups. Another player making a difference was Ashleigh Cruce, who had four digs and three aces.
Meanwhile, Truman was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They lost 3-0 to Park Hill South.
The final score came out to 25-8, 25-10, 25-9.
Truman's defeat dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Platte County, their win bumped their record up to 13-8-2.
Everything went Platte County's way against Truman when the teams last played back in September, as Platte County made off with a 3-0 victory. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Patriots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
