Montgomery County has gone a perfect 10-0 against Paris recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Indians will take on the Greyhounds at 6:00 p.m. Montgomery County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
Montgomery County will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs last Tuesday, then bounced right back against George Rogers Clark on Tuesday. The Indians walked away with an 11-6 win over the Cardinals. Considering the Indians' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Ryleigh Martin made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). Martin was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sara Zink, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Lilliana Hill was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, Paris got themselves on the board against Augusta on Monday, but Augusta never followed suit. They were the clear victors by an 18-0 margin over the Panthers. Considering the Greyhounds have won ten matches by more than ten runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Montgomery County, Paris also got a great game from a two-way player: Kendell Baldwin. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Baldwin has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four stolen bases, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Paris let Allison Castro and Tori Dumphord run wild. Castro went a perfect 3-for-3 with five stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs, while Dumphord got on base in all four of her plate appearances with seven stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Dumphord is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kay Oliver, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Paris always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .839. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The victory made it two in a row for Paris and bumps their season record up to 13-8. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.5 runs over those games. As for Montgomery County, their record is now 10-3.
Paris' hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Montgomery County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Paris, though, as they've been averaging only 2.2 strikeouts. Will Montgomery County keep running through batters, or will the Greyhounds buck the trend?
Everything went Montgomery County's way against Paris in their previous meeting back in March, as Montgomery County made off with a 15-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
