Washington is on a three-game streak of home losses, and Mission San Jose a seven-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Thursday. The Washington Huskies will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mission San Jose Warriors at 4:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Having struggled with ten defeats in a row, Washington turned things around against Irvington on Tuesday. They blew past the Vikings 15-7. The Huskies not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 25th (when they won 15-7).
Washington let Jamilla Ingraham-Coats and Audrey Cooper run wild. Ingraham-Coats went 1-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Cooper got on base in three of her six plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI Cooper has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Sophia Swyers, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mission San Jose). They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over American on Wednesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Warriors needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Hailey Pan made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Aria Gokani and Anjali Singh did most of the damage at the plate: Gokani went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI, while Singh went 1-for-3 with four stolen bases and two runs. Emma Lee was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Mission San Jose always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Washington's victory bumped their record up to 7-16. As for Mission San Jose, they moved to 3-12 with that win, which also ended their five-game losing streak.
Washington couldn't quite get it done against Mission San Jose in their previous meeting back in April as they fell 4-0. Will the Huskies have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
