Fans got a thrill when Jameson Vest and Delfayeo Matthews connected against Pace Academy. The longest such play in A Region 5 this season, the connection resulted in 73 yards.
Our Lady of Mercy moved up to 274 from 328 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Bobcats were able to move up by besting the Knights 22-14.
Vest was a passing and rushing force as Our Lady of Mercy defeated Pace Academy. He completed 9 passes for 161 yards and also ran for 48 yards. Vest's key target this week was Matthews, who caught 5 passes for 83 yards.
Malik Staples was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 49 yards on 12 carries as Chris Slade's team beat Chris Slade's team. Kevin Johnson also contributed to the rushing game with 22 yards on the ground.
Pace Academy's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Knights feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Johnson has thrown for 949 yards and 15 touchdowns this season, while Kameron Uter has 34 catches for 343 yards.
A big matchup in A Region 5 this week will be when Landmark Christian takes on the Bobcats. The War Eagles are currently in first, while Our Lady of Mercy is in sixth.
Landmark Christian added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Mount Vernon Presbyterian, 52-19. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
