The Downey Christian Patriots lost against the Central Pointe Christian Academy CPCA back in November of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The contest between the pair wasn't particularly close, with Downey Christian falling 46-31. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 306th, while Central Pointe Christian Academy is ranked 122nd).
Despite the loss, Downey Christian saw an underclassman step up: Valeria Lopez scored nine points along with nine rebounds and four steals. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for her. Mariana Rios was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Leading Central Pointe Christian Academy to victory were Yohangeli Guzman and Sofia Leichtle. Guzman scored 13 points, while Leichtle scored 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sofia Ramirez, who scored seven points.
Downey Christian's defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 4-7. As for Central Pointe Christian Academy, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.
Downey Christian will head out on the road to face off against Windermere Prep at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Windermere Prep is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games. Central Pointe Christian Academy will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Mainland on January 19th.
